Day of Struggle for Freedom and Democracy 2026 in Czechia

The Czech holiday on 17 November is named for the struggle for freedom and democracy and International Students’ Day. It recalls two major episodes: Nazi repression of Czech students in 1939, including the closure of universities, and the student demonstration in Prague in 1989 whose suppression helped set the Velvet Revolution in motion. The supplied calendar confirms the date and public classification, but does not describe these historical events. Official Czech historical materials could substantiate the details and explain the holiday’s formal status.
