Abolition of slavery 2026 in France

Mayotte’s calendar entry lists Abolition de l’esclavage as a public holiday on 27 April 2026. This is a regional observance, not a nationwide French public holiday. The supplied background excerpt is about the end of slavery in the United States, so it cannot substantiate Mayotte’s history or the meaning of its date. The entry is therefore useful for identifying the local name and date, but further local historical context should be checked with Mayotte’s authorities or a specialist French slavery-history resource.
