Abolition of slavery 2026 in France

For Martinique, the calendar lists Abolition de l’esclavage as a public holiday on 22 May 2026. This is a regional date and should not be presented as a public holiday throughout France. The supplied background concerns abolition in the United States, not Martinique, and therefore does not verify the local history or the reason for this date. The calendar supports the listing and its classification; local government or a specialist French slavery-history resource could provide the appropriate Martinican context.
