Youth Day 2026 in South Africa

South Africa’s calendar lists Youth Day on June 16, 2026, as a public holiday. In the country, the date commemorates the 1976 Soweto uprising and the role of young people in the struggle against apartheid. The supplied background notes that Youth Day observances vary internationally, but does not describe this South African history. The calendar confirms the local date and holiday classification; an official South African history or heritage source would be a useful lead for verifying further detail. The date’s local significance should not be confused with the August 12 international observance mentioned in the background.
